Biography

 
Church of St. Clement of Ohrid in Skopje

Born in the village of Galichnik in the west of the then Vardar banovina of the Yugoslav kingdom [1] . He entered the Faculty of Architecture of the Higher Technical School of Belgrade , where his teacher was Milan Zlokovich [1] . In 1950 he received a diploma and returned to Skopje . There he got a job in the design organization "Projectant", where he worked for about 10 years. Then he worked in the organizations “Pelagonik project” and “Macedonian project”. As an expert of the Institute for Scientific and Technical Cooperation, they went to Tripoli , where he performed the tasks of the Libyan Ministry of Housing. Returning from Libya, from 1960 to 1962 he worked as an assistant teacher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Skopje . Interrupted his teaching activities during a business trip to Brazil . Since 1969, he again taught at the Department of Designing Public Buildings of the Faculty of Architecture [2] . Received the title of professor. He taught at the university until 1987 [1] .

Works

Brezovsky designed and built many modernist buildings in socialist Yugoslavia. One of his most famous works is the church of St. Clement of Ohrid in Skopje [3] . He is the author of the project of the Embassy of Yugoslavia in the city of Brasilia (1961), according to his projects, many buildings were built in the former Yugoslav republics, Brazil and Libya.

He was influenced by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer , as well as the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange during the planning of the city center of Skopje, which suffered after the 1963 earthquake [4] .

Brezovsky was one of the most prominent architects and practitioners in the midst of the influence of brutalism on the architecture of Northern Macedonia [5] .
