Etymology
The name comes from the genus Ovchulu [1] .
History
The first mention of the village dates back to the beginning of the XX century.
In 1926, according to the administrative-territorial division of the Azerbaijan SSR, the village belonged to the dacra Lyaki of the Geokchay district .
After the reform of the administrative division and the abolition of counties in 1929, the Ortalyak Village Council was formed in the Agdash region of the Azerbaijan SSR .
According to the administrative division of 1961 and 1977, the village of Ovchulu was part of the Orta-Lyaksky village council of the Agdash region of the Azerbaijan SSR [2] [3] .
In 1999, administrative reform was carried out in Azerbaijan and the Ashagi-Laksky municipality of the Agdash region was established, which included the village [4] .
Geography
Near the village flows the Kura River .
The village is located 26 km from the district center of Agdash and 260 km from Baku . The nearest railway station is Lyaki.
The height of the village above sea level is 9 m.
