Bacalis, Michael

Michael J. Bakalis ( born March 23, 1938 , Berwyn , Illinois , USA ) is an American university worker and politician - Democrat , ( 1977 - 1979 ), and formerly ( 1971 - 1975 ). Candidate Governor of Illinois ( 1978 ). He teaches at Northwestern University (since 1994 ).

Biography

Born March 23, 1938 in Beruin ( Illinois , USA ) in a Greek family. Maternal grandfather Bakalisa immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1898, and his father in 1923.

He graduated from Northwestern University with bachelor's degrees (1959), master's degree (1962) and doctor of philosophy (1966).

He served as Deputy Dean at the , Dean of the School of Education , and President of the (1990-1992).

Since 1994, she has been working at at Northwestern University, where she teaches public and non-profit management , politics and strategy.

In the years 1971-1975 - superintendent of Illinois public education.

In 1977-1979 - Illinois financial inspector.

In 1978, having a reputation as an unwavering advocate of education, he became a candidate for governor of Illinois, winning the Democratic Party primaries . The result of the vote was the victory of the current head of state, Republican (59% against 40% of the vote), which Bakalis criticized for education and tax policies.

In 1980-1982, he served as Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education for the United States , managing 10 regional offices.

In 1988, he managed the election campaign of Michael Dukakis , who participated in the presidential election .

In 1999, he founded the non-profit organization American Quality Schools , of which he is president and CEO . The organization administers in the Midwestern United States .

In 2002, he again nominated himself for the post of governor of Illinois, but lost the internal party elections due to lack of financial resources.

He is the author of numerous articles and professional publications, including The Achilles Heel . He lectures at the National Greek Museum in Chicago .

Personal life

Married to his wife Desi has daughters Patty and Erin.
