Jean de la Rostalier ( fr. Jean de La Rochetaillée , c. 1365 - May 24, 1437) - French cardinal of the XV century. He held a number of important posts in the church hierarchy - the titular Latin Patriarch of Constantinople (1412-1423), the apostolic administrator of Paris (1422-1423), the archbishop of Rouen (1423-1431), the archbishop of Besancon (1429-1437).

Biography
Born in the town of Rochetall-sur-Saône ( fr: Rochetaillée-sur-Saône ) near Lyon in a poor family, the exact date of birth is unknown. His real name was Jean de Font ( fr. Jean de Fonte ), he took the name Rostaglie in honor of his native village [1] .
In 1392, he served as one of the clergy in the Lyon Cathedral , then was a canon in Paris and Rouen [1] . In 1407 he was a canon in Amiens , was sent by the chapter to the Leaning Cathedral of Pisa [2] .
On July 13, 1412, Rostaglie was appointed Antipope John XXIII as the titular Latin Patriarch of Constantinople . Possessed the authority of the papal legate in the Lyon Archbishopric. In 1413, in Lyon, a dispute was resolved between two churches about the whereabouts of the tomb of St. Irenaeus of Lyons [3] .
In 1418 he became the apostolic administrator of Geneva [4] . June 12, 1422 was appointed apostolic administrator of Paris , but on June 26, 1423 he was transferred to the department of Rouen [5] . He had to fulfill his functions under the conditions of English power - and the Paris and Rouen during the described period of the Hundred Years War were occupied by the British.
He gained fame as an outstanding lawyer, had a great influence during the pontificate of Pope Martin V. At the consistory on May 24, 1426, Martin V elevated him to the cardinals with the title of San Lorenzo in Lucina [1] . On October 14, 1429, Rostaglie received the post of Archbishop of Besancon , who held until his death [5] .
He participated in the conclave of 1431, which elected Pope Eugene IV and in the work of the Basel Cathedral . In 1434 he became vice chancellor of the Roman Curia , after which he moved to Rome . He died on May 24, 1437 in Bologna , after his death his body was transported to Lyon and buried in the Cathedral of Lyon [1] .
