Librascope is an American company founded in 1937 by Lewis Imm. Located in Glendale ( California ). The company was engaged in improving the balance of aircraft , as well as various military applied research and development work .
History
In 1941, Librascope was acquired by General Precision Equipment , which included the first digital computers sold for both commercial and defense organizations. In 1956, the company invited Stan Frenkel , a member of the Manhattan Project and one of the first programmers at ENIAC , to design the LGP-30 computer.
Following the acquisition of Librascope by Singer , its activities focused on the production of marine systems for the defense industry. The company specialized in fire systems for torpedoes , but also continued to work on many other small military contracts during the 1970s .
After Paul Bilzerian became the main one at Singer after the raider takeover , Librascope was sold to Loral in 1992 and resold to Lockheed-Martin in 1996, where it was ultimately merged with Lockheed-Martin Federal Systems and is now called Lockheed-Martin NE & SS-Undersea Systems .
According to some documents from history.nasa.gov , the Librascope 3 computer was used at the second stage of the Centaurus rocket. The Atlas-Centaur Librascope computer was a 25-bit magnetic drum memory computer. [one]
Now the company is engaged in the production of on-board computers and on-board recorders (“black boxes”) for aircraft.
