In 1862, it was decided to demolish the old building and build the palace of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich. The palace was built according to the project of the architect A. I. Rezanov in 1867-1868, however, a few more years, until 1874, the decoration of the premises was in progress.
After 1917, various institutions were located in the building, and since the 1920s the palace has occupied the House of Scientists .
