Biography
He studied at the 37th Soviet school of the uniform labor school of the I and II steps of the Vyborgsky district in Petrograd. Poet. 07.21.1921, Mr .. joined the association "Ring of poets named after K. M. Fofanova, ”was appointed deputy chairman. 04.17.1922 expelled along with E.I. Zamyatin from the specified association, 08.21.1922 re-joined its ranks. A member of Deevelvolpal A. M. Remizov (“servant”, “cavalier” and “former tsar hedgehog”). In 1922 he entered the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Public Pedagogical Department of Petrograd University. In 1923, he submitted an application with a request to issue him documents to continue his studies at the Faculty of Economics of the First Petrograd Polytechnic Institute.
In 1923, together with his older brothers, he went abroad “for the purpose of further training” and never returned to Russia. Arriving in Paris, he began to study with the famous Byzantinist G. Millet at the Practical School of Higher Studies and at the College de France. He worked in the Byzantine library in Paris on the rue de Lille, where he was the keeper and then scientific secretary of T. Whittimore.
In 1945 he became a member of the Russian Parisian Masonic lodge " Jupiter " No. 536 of the Grand Lodge of France [1] .
In 1959 he defended a doctoral dissertation in Byzantine art and archeology at the historical-philological faculty of the University of Paris. Byzantinist, art critic, archaeologist. Until 1963, he was engaged in research at the National Center for Scientific Research. Since 1963 he taught Byzantine archeology and art at the Sorbonne (until 1968 - the University of Paris 1), since 1970 he was a professor. He headed the department at the Sorbonne . Head of the Center for the Teaching and Research of Art History and Archeology. Member of the Icon Society in Paris . The author of several scientific works, including: “Parts of the Holy Cross. A study of their veneration ”(Paris, 1961),“ Arks in which particles of the Holy Cross were stored ”(Paris, 1965).
Last years he lived in the Russian House (for the elderly) in Cormeilles-en-Parisis (near Paris).
