French Chess Championship 2001

The 76th French Championship was held in Marseille from August 12 to 25, 2001 .

The participants of the championship were divided into two groups of eight chess players in each. The first four in each group qualified in the next step. In group A, it was a big surprise that Joel Lautier could not get into the first half. In group B, Elua Relange won the tie-break in the blitz by Joseph Dorfman with a score of 2½: 1½, and Igor-Alexander Nataf refused to participate in the tie-break and therefore was absent in the next stage. In the final, chess players played only against members of another qualification group. Points scored are summarized.
