The journal publishes scientific materials reported at sessions, meetings and conferences (both Russian and international), held under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This is what distinguishes it from other academic periodical scientific publications.
Peer-reviewed journal “News of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Physical Series is unique in its range of scientific problems, covering essentially all of modern physics. These include nuclear spectroscopy and the structure of the atomic nucleus, cosmic rays, optics and spectroscopy, laser physics, electronics, solid state physics, and materials science.
The journal is included in the List of peer-reviewed publications in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of candidate and doctor of science are to be published .
The journal is included in the International Reference Databases and Citation Systems SCOPUS, INSPEC, Astrophysics Data System (ADS), Zentralblatt Math, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Google Scholar, Academic OneFile, EICompendex, Expanded Academic, OCLC, SCImago, Summon by ProQuest.
History
The journal was founded in 1936 by S. I. Vavilov . Until 1992, it was called "News of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Physical series. The editors-in-chief of the journal in different years were such prominent Russian scientists as academicians S. I. Vavilov, A. F. Ioffe , A. A. Lebedev , corresponding member B. S. Dzhelepov , academicians A. V. Gaponov-Grekhov and F. V. Bunkin . At present, the editor-in-chief of the journal is RAS Corresponding Member D. R. Khokhlov .
Since 1974, the magazine has been translated into English. Until 2008, the English version of the Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics was published by the American publishing house Allerton Press, Inc. NY, currently published by Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., is distributed by Springer . ISSN English version 1062-8738.
