Biography
Born August 1, 1932 in the village. Perfilovo (now it is the territory of the Irkutsk region).
In 1953, he graduated from the Geological Exploration Department of the Irkutsk Mining and Metallurgical Institute , then for three years he worked as the head of the search party of the Chaunsky RayGRU (Pevek, Chukotka).
In the period from 1955 to 1957 - discovered a number of gold-silver deposits and ore occurrences. Mineralization of this type has not been studied and evaluated within the North-East of Russia. The research results of these deposits: production reports, publications, 2 monographs (“Gold and Silver Mineralization of Central Chukotka.” M. Nauka, 1966 and “Gold and Silver Formation of East Asian Volcanogenic Belts.” Magadan. 1978) were pioneering. According to the results of these works, in 1965, he defended his Ph.D.
In 1971, he took part in the organization of the Laboratory of Geology of Noble Metals of the North-Eastern Scientific Research Institute of the Far-Eastern Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Magadan, and worked as its head for eight years.
In 1980, he took part in the organization of the gold geology department of the East of the USSR at the Central Research Institute of Mineral Resources, Mingeo USSR in Moscow, then worked as the head of this department.
From 1985 to 1993, he was the director of the North-Western Scientific Research Institute , organized the North-East Complex Research Institute of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences , and in 1990 was elected its chairman.
From 1983 to 1984 - combined the main work with the post of head of the people's universities of the "Knowledge" societies in the Soviet district of Moscow.
From 1985 to 1993 - Chairman of the North-Eastern Branch of the All-Union Mineralogical Society.
In 1990 - was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1991 - was elected a corresponding member of the RAS.
Scientific activity
With his active participation, new concepts of “Precambrian preformations”, “complete and reduced ore-formation series” were created, the relationship and characteristics of the sources of mineral matter of deposits of different mineral types within each ore-formation series were shown; regularities of progressive reuvenation of mineralization of a regional scale are revealed.
Based on this data, monographs were written:
- “Ore formations and evolutionary historical analysis of noble metal mineralization” (1998)
- “Gold-mining giants of Russia and the world” (co-authored with M. M. Konstantinov, E. M. Nekrasov, S. F. Struzhkovuy, 2000)
- “The unique gold ore region of Chukotka” (co-authored with A. V. Volkov, 2001)
- “Geology of silver deposits” (in collaboration with M. M. Konstantinov, A. V. Kostin, 2003)
- “Deposits of gold and silver of Chukotka” (co-authored with A. V. Volkov, V. I. Goncharov, 2006)
Author of more than 300 publications, including 15 monographs (11 of them are co-authored) and 15 articles in various foreign publications.
Participation in scientific organizations
- deputy Editor-in-chief of the journal “Volcanology and Seismology”
- Member of the editorial board of the journals “Kolyma”, “Materials on geology and minerals of the North-East of the USSR”, “Pacific Geology”, “Bulletin of the North-East Scientific Center of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences”
