Biography

Viktor Gemini was born in the village of Vladimirovka, Kompanievsky district, Kirovograd region, in a peasant family. At the end of the decade, in 1952, Viktor Gemini went to Kiev and successfully passed the exams at the Faculty of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev . His classmates and friends were Vasily Simonenko , Tamara Kolomiyets, Y. Yacheykin and other gifted and talented people, in the future also writers. After graduating from university in 1957, he worked as a specialist in various newspapers and magazines. In particular, he was a correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda , the head of the department of the newspaper Komsomolskoye Znamya, the head of the school life department of Pioneria magazine, and the deputy editor-in-chief of the Youth Publishing House.

Staying in a creative and intellectual environment and working as an editor of publishing houses prompted Victor Gemini to make creative attempts. From childhood, literature attracted him and he decided to try to write something on his own. This became decisive in his later life. Subsequently, he put on paper his experiences, memories and dreams - he released a selection of stories that was more suitable for a children's audience. In 1959, the first book of Victor Gemini was born - a collection of short stories "Oyoykov Nest", published in 1963. The release of the first collection inspired the author to great creative accomplishments - such as the story of the memoirs “Sails over the Steppe”, in which he reflected paintings from his past. And already the next book by Gemini - the story "The Sound of the Spider Web" (1970) made critics speak of the author as one of the brightest children's writers in Ukraine.

Shortly before his death, Viktor Semenovich translated the chronicle The Tale of Bygone Years into modern Ukrainian. At the Rainbow Publishing House, she came out with engravings by artist George Yakutovich . In the spring of 1981, Gemini committed suicide a week before his 48th birthday. He was buried at the Baykovsky cemetery in Kiev.

In 1988, Victor Gemini was posthumously awarded the title of winner of the Lesya Ukrainka Literary Prize , and in 2003, the Sound Gossamer Victor Gemini Literary Prize was founded by the Yaroslav the Wise International Educational Foundation.
