Jean Detwiler ( Fr. Jean Daetwyler ; January 24, 1907 , Basel - June 4, 1994 , Siders ) - Swiss composer.
He grew up in Bühl , from the age of seven he studied violin with the head of the city orchestra Rafael Radro, then also learned to play the trombone. Since 1927 he improved as a musician in Paris, including under the guidance of Vincent d'Andy and Charles Köklen . In 1938 he returned to Switzerland and settled in Siders, where he headed the municipal brass band, also directed the choir. In the years 1940-1945. composed music for broadcasts of Radio Lausanne. In 1947, he stood at the origins of the conservatory in Sion and until 1972 taught harmony and counterpoint.
The most famous part of Detviler’s composer's legacy is compositions for the alpine horn , including a concert for the alpine horn and chamber orchestra, written for virtuoso on this instrument by Jozsef Molnar [1] . Among Detwiler’s other works are several programmatic symphonies, including the Ski Symphony (1948) presented at the London Summer Olympics music competitions , concerts for viola and trombone and orchestra (both 1979), and numerous choral works, including Requiem atomic era ”( French Requiem pour les temps atomiques ; 1974) for soloists, choir and orchestra, during the life of the author performed and recorded in abbreviation under the direction of the author, and by the centenary of the composer sounded entirely.
