Popov rebellion

" Popov rebellion " - anti-Soviet protests by residents of Omsk in February 17, 1918, resulting in religious processions. The reason for the speeches was the Bolshevik policy of secularization, confiscation of church property. Up to 10 thousand people took part in the performances. Around the churches organized duty. On February 19, the Bolsheviks arrested Archbishop Sylvester , but he managed to order that the Assumption Cathedral strike the alarm . During the arrest, the archbishop's cell-keeper was killed. The detachment of Boris Annenkov during the unrest made the seizure of relics from St. Nicholas Cathedral ( Banner Ermak ). When leaving, there was a shootout with the Red Guards. However, the Red Guards did not dare to use weapons against the bulk of the believers. However, on the afternoon of February 19, the Bolsheviks imposed a ban on meetings and strengthened their armed patrols. The cadet corps was disbanded for participating in the riots.
