The odograph is the historical name of the navigation device that displayed information about the position of the vessel on the marine navigation chart, while automatically registering the ship's course and calculating the distance traveled by this course was based on the gyrocompass and ship's lag [1] [2] .
The odograph data acquired particular value for the Navy ships during the production of evolutions and during combat maneuvering, when the implementation of the usual course plotting was hampered by frequent changes in speed and direction [2] . However, the navigation method using an odograph had a number of drawbacks, for example, it did not take into account the drift of the vessel due to currents and wind [2] .
On modern watercraft, the odograph functions are performed by the course autoplayers [1] .
