Dipold von Schweinspoynt

Dipold von Schweinspoynt (him. Diepold von Schweinspeunt , it. Diopoldo d'Acerra, Diopuld de Suinesbiunt ) (r. Ca. 1170, died after 1221) - German commander, participant of the wars of the German emperors in Italy.

From the Bavarian kind of Schweinspoints. He is often [1] confused with the Margrave Dipold VII von Foburg .

In 1191 he accompanied Emperor Henry VI to Rome for coronation. From the same year - the owner of the castle of Rocca d'Arche.

Justiciar (ruler) Terra di Lavoro (from 1195), Count of Acerra (from 1197).

On June 11, 1205, near Sarno, Gauthier de Brienne was ambushed by an ambush organized by Dipold. His detachment was defeated, he himself was seriously wounded, was captured and died a few days later.

Since 1209, Dipold von Schweinspoynt is a supporter of Otto of Brunswick , who made him Duke of Spoleto (1210).

Otto’s opponent Friedrich II captured Dipold von Schweinspoynt in 1218 and forced him to abandon all Italian possessions.

According to the historian Alberic de Trois-Fontaine , in 1221 Dipold von Schweinspoint joined the Teutonic Order . His further fate is not known.
