Born in the city of Bapatla of the Madras Presidency of British India (now the state of Andhra Pradesh ), in a wealthy Brahmin family. Received primary education in his hometown. At the age of 16, he participated in a school strike movement. He received his law degree from the Catholic in Madras . During his studies, he was interested in tennis, participated in student tournaments, in 1938 he became the champion of Bombay University in this sport [3] . He received a master's degree in law from the University of Pune . Since 1940, after graduating from the university, he practiced advocacy. In 1942, he founded the Youth League in Bapatle, promoting the movement for homespun wear, led by Mahatma Gandhi (in protest of the increased prices for cotton clothes introduced by the British colonial authorities, which, moreover, were imported from England). In the late 1940s - early 1950s, starred in Telugu films .
In 1967, he first took public office, having been elected to the Legislative Assembly of the State of Andhra Pradesh, and was later re-elected in 1972 and 1978. From 1980 to 1981 he was the speaker of the state parliament. From September 2, 1983 to June 1984, he was governor of the Union Territory of Pondicherry . From June 18, 1984 to May 30, 1985 he served as the governor of Sikkim . May 31, 1985 became governor of Maharashtra , having remained in this post until April 2, 1986 [3] .
He died on October 20, 1990 in Hyderabad .
