Biography
Came from the Voronezh province . He graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1878) and entered the full-time class of the Imperial Academy of Arts . During his studies, he received Academy awards: a small and a large silver medal (1879), a small gold (1880) for the program βJacob recognizes the clothes of his son Joseph sold by his brothers to Egypt,β a large gold medal and the title of class artist of the 1st degree (1881) ) for the painting "St. Sergius blesses Dmitry Donskoy to the battle and lets two monks go with him . " Sent by a pensioner of the Academy of Arts in Europe (1882). Received the title of academician of painting (1889) for the painting "The Last Minutes of Metropolitan Philip . " In addition to paintings, he also painted images for the iconostases , and made mosaic sketches for one of the churches of St. Petersburg . He taught painting in a plaster class at the Academy of Fine Arts (1887β1889). [one]
In the workshop of Novoskoltsev for the iconostasis of the Tallinn Cathedral , (1889β1899) 59 icons and 4 icon cases on zinc and copper boards were made. According to the sketches of Novoskoltsev, colored glasses were made for the altar windows of the main aisle with the image of the Savior, the Virgin and John the Baptist. Novoskoltsev performed mosaics in the Church of the Savior on Blood : on the southeastern domed pylon "Rev. Prokhor and Nikon Pechersky" , "Martyrs Lydia and Anastasia" , "Apostles Eod and Just" , as well as several biblical stories on other pylons of the church.
