"Open City" is a cultural and educational project in St. Petersburg .
"Open City" is a joint project of the St. Petersburg city branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture and the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, implemented with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg. The aim of the project is to acquaint citizens with the unique cultural heritage of St. Petersburg - grand ducal palaces, mansions, estates, industrial buildings, which for various reasons are not accessible to the general public. Thanks to the Open City project, more than 80 such historical and cultural monuments have opened their doors to sightseers. "Open City" is a social project implemented with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg, all events for citizens of the Russian Federation are free of charge. In addition to different types of excursions - pedestrian, bus, bicycle and retro trams, the project program includes historical quests, general lectures on the history, architecture and culture of St. Petersburg. The best guides, local historians, leading specialists in architecture and art collaborate with the project [1] .

History
The idea of the project arose as a result of an action in St. Petersburg in 2016 on the International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites , in which the city committee for the protection of monuments provided city residents and visitors with the opportunity to visit a number of historical buildings with an organized tour in which museum activities are not is the main focus. Then over 4,000 people took part in the action. [2]
Season One (2016)
- In 2016, the Open City project received financial support from the city government. [3]
- The first activities of the project began in September 2016.
- For the first month of work, more than 1,200 people took part in the project. [four]
- The season ended in December 2016.
- As part of the first season, 300 excursions were organized to 50 objects of different access regimes and affiliations. [5]
- The participants of the first season were 8,491 people who visited 57 objects of cultural heritage, 2,400 people attended 24 lectures.
- 314 events were held, including 197 walking, 76 bus, 10 tram excursions, 7 historical quests. But even so many events were not enough to satisfy the demand for excursions of the Open City.
- As statistics have shown, more than 45,000 Petersburgers and visitors would like to take part in the Open City project. [6]
Second Season (2017)
- The second season of the Open City project started on April 12, 2017.
- The second season of the Open City project ended on December 10, 2017.
- The general partner of the second season of the project is the largest Russian digital television operator Tricolor TV .
- In the second season of the Open City project, 905 events took place. In spring and summer, project participants attended 400 events, including 25 quests, 19 retro-tram excursions, and 10 general education lectures.
- From August to December, 505 events were held, of which 342 were walking tours, 107 bus tours, 11 retro tram tours, 10 cycling tours to cultural heritage sites, 22 quests and 13 lectures.
- In just a year and a half, the project involved more than 15,000 people. [7]
