Vologda State Technical University

The history of the university dates back to 1966 , when the General Technical Faculty of the North-West Correspondence Polytechnic Institute (SZPI) was opened in Vologda . The faculty had only evening and correspondence courses. In 1967, the faculty was reorganized into the Vologda branch of the North-Western Pedagogical Institute. There were only 2 faculties in the branch:

• Full-time faculty
• Faculty of evening and distance learning.

In 1975, at the suggestion of the Vologda Oblast Executive Committee, the Vologda branch of SZPI was transformed into the Vologda Polytechnic Institute ( VPI ). In 1986, the Cherepovets branch of VPI was opened on the basis of the Cherepovets branch of SZPI, which lasted until 1993, when it was transformed into the Cherepovets State Industrial Institute. In the same 1986, the Polytechnic sanatorium was opened at the institute. In 1999, the VPI received the highest accreditation status and became a university . Since then, it has become known as the Vologda State Technical University ( VSTU ). In 2001, the Cherepovets branch was reopened, in which about 1,500 students studied. In 2004, 3,500 full-time students, 2,000 students of the faculty of distance learning, more than 300 students of the secondary technical faculty, and about 100 graduate students studied at the university. In 2011, the university completely switched to a two-tier system .

In November 2012, while testing the effectiveness of universities by the Ministry of Education and Science , the university itself was recognized as effective ^[3] , while the Cherepovets branch, on the contrary, was included in the list of ineffective ones ^[4] . According to the rating of the Expert agency, which was compiled almost simultaneously and contained about 40 graduation criteria, the Volga State Technical University entered the top 100 Russian universities, ranking 91st ^[2] .

In December 2012, the regional government and the Ministry of Education and Science decided to combine the VSTU and the Voronezh State Pedagogical University into a single classical university. The new university was to be financed from the federal budget ^{[5] [6] [7]} . On August 28, 2013, by order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 1001, VSTU was reorganized by joining the Vologda State Pedagogical University as a structural unit ^[8] . On October 24, 2013, the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 1182 was issued on renaming the VSTU into the Vologda State University ^[9] . The renaming itself was made on November 14, 2013 ^[10] .

The Vologda State Technical University currently consists of 8 faculties.

Faculty of Power Engineering (EEF)

It was founded in April 1971 and, along with the mechanical and technological, is the oldest faculty of VSTU. It consisted of the following departments:

• Department of Biomedical Engineering
• Department of Automation and Computer Engineering
• Department of Information Systems and Technologies

Faculty of Production Management and Innovative Technologies (FPMiIT)

Along with the electric power industry, it was the oldest faculty of the Volga State Technical University. In 1971-1997 it was called mechanical-technological, in 1997-2010 - the faculty of industrial management, from the end of 2010 - the faculty of industrial management and innovative technologies. It consisted of the following departments:

• Department of Engineering Technology
• Department of Technology and Equipment of Automated Production
• Department of Automobiles and Automotive Economy
• Department of Innovation Management and Organization of Production
• Department of Theory and Design of Machines and Mechanisms
• Department of Life Safety and Industrial Ecology

Now at FPMiIT bachelors were trained in the following areas:

Founded in 1972, it was one of the oldest faculties of the university. The faculty included the following departments:

It got its name in 2000, before that in 1977 - 2000 it was called hydrotechnical.

Faculty of Technology

It was formed on the basis of the Vologda branch of the Leningrad Physical-Mechanical College named after S. A. Zvereva , which was opened in Vologda in August 1979 . In 1989, the college was transferred to the balance of the Vologda Polytechnic Institute (VPI). Since 1990, the technical school was transformed into the secondary technical faculty of VPI (since 1999 - VSTU). The faculty implemented secondary vocational education programs in the following specialties:

• 080110 "Economics and accounting (by industry)." Qualification of the graduate - accountant.
• 080113 "Insurance business (by industry)." Qualification of the graduate is an insurance specialist.
• 230101 "Computers, complexes, systems and networks." Qualification of a graduate is a technician.

In 2009, the faculty was liquidated and joined the Engineering College.

Engineering College

In 2008, the Vologda Engineering College was joined to VSTU. Prior to that, he was an independent educational institution of secondary specialized education. The college itself was founded in 1967 with the aim of training personnel for the GPZ-23 . In 2009, the secondary technical faculty of VSTU was attached to the Engineering College.
