Biography
Alexander Yezhov was born in Serpukhov in the family of Ivan Stepanovich, who worked as a teacher in one of the Moscow elementary schools, and midwife-feldsherits Faina Semyonovna. After the October Revolution, his father worked in the publishing field, and in 1923, when his son graduated from the second-level school in Moscow, he left his family [2] .
Alexander at that time managed to enter the 1st Moscow State University , but was soon forced to support his family and left to work as an electrician in the Electrotrest in the Central District of the capital. Later, from September 1925 to December 1926, he worked in the same position at the Hammer and Sickle factory [2] .
In August 1927, Alexander Yezhov entered the electric traction department of the Institute of National Economy. Plekhanov . In 1930, the faculty was poured into the structure of the Moscow Energy Institute , which he graduated in 1931. After graduating from the institute in 1931, Yezhov began working as an engineer in Mostramvaytrest [2] .
In October 1931 he was drafted into the Red Army and served a year at the Military Engineering Academy in Leningrad [2] .
Work in the Metrostroy and Moscow Metro
After returning from the army in October 1932 he entered as an engineer in Moscow Metrostroy . In February 1935, Yezhov was transferred to the Moscow Metro, where preparations were underway for the launch of the first stage. There, until 1936, he worked as the head of the technical department of the depot, after which he held the post of senior engineer of the Bureau of the new rolling stock [2] .
From 1937 until 1943 he was in the position of head of the technical department of the metro. Finally, in May 1943, Yezhov became the chief metro engineer [2] .

Under the leadership of Alexander Yezhov, a lot of work was done to expand the metro capacity, automation and improve safety: the alarm and blocking systems were reconstructed, which increased the traffic intensity to 40 pairs of trains per hour and increased their speed in separate sections to 70 km / h; trains were radio-fired, traction and step-down substations switched to auto-control, the introduction of centralized dispatch centralization of checkpoints took place [2] .
Lightweight cars of type “D” were also developed and introduced [3] . On the Sokolnicheskaya line (then the Kirov-Frunzenskaya), trains of seven cars were launched [4] . In 1952, the first turnstile with a photocell appeared at the Krasnye Vorota station [4] .
Under his leadership, 30.5 km of tracks were laid and 26 new stations were put into operation, including the Ring Line in 1954 [1] [5] .
Yezhov was the initiator of the creation of a construction organization at the subway, which, for the needs of the metro staff, had built 31 thousand m² of housing by the end of the 1950s [2] .
In October 1959, Alexander Yezhov was relieved of his post, Alexander Novokhatsky took his place [1] . Later, Yezhov worked as the head of the metro rolling stock service [5] .
