Life and creativity
Born in the family of a samurai named Isio Takaki, a vassal of the feudal family of . At the age of 18, he was adopted by Okada Masazzo. He studied painting at the school of Western art from Soyama Kihiko ( Jap. 曽 山 幸 彦 with: Yi Kihiko , 1860-1892) , from 1891 he became a member of the Meiji Bijutsukai Union of Artists ( Jap. 明治 美術 会 ) . After the early death of Soyama, Okada continues his studies at the Daykikan school ( Jap. 大 幸 館 ) under the direction of Horie Masaaki ( Jap. 堀 江 正 章 , 1852-1932) , which he graduated in 1893. In the same year, Okada, under the influence of painters Seiki Kuroda and who returned from France, enjoys an open-air painting. At the age of 27, he became an assistant professor at the Department of Western Painting (Yuga) at Tokyo University of Art and one of the founders of the Hakubakai Society ( Japan ) . In 1897, Okada received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture to continue his education and left for France, where he works at the workshop of Raphael Collin .
In 1902, Okada returned from Europe to his homeland and became a professor at Tokyo University of Art (among his students Hasui Kawase ). At 37, he marries Osanai Yatio ( Jap. Я 代 ) , the daughter of playwright Kaoru Osanai . In 1907, he was a member of the jury of the annual art exhibition (abbreviated as "Bunthen"), organized by the Ministry of Culture of Japan. In 1912, he created, in conjunction with . In 1920 he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts . In 1930, Okada was seconded by the Ministry of Culture of Japan to Europe. In 1934 he was appointed adviser to the imperial court on art issues. In 1937 he became one of the first cultural figures awarded by the Order of Culture .
