Fictional Character Biography

Yu-Ti gave young Danny Rand a student, Lei Kung the Thunderer, who teaches him martial arts in the mystical city of K'un-L'un. The Steel Serpent (the exiled son of Lei Kung) later becomes one of the opponents of Iron Fist, as he longed for the power of Iron Fist.

When the Steel Serpent was unable to defeat Show Lao , Lei Kung found him crying in the snow. Then he sent the Steel Serpent back to the city.

During Avenger vs. X-Men »Iron Fist asks Lei Kung to take Hope Summers to K'un L'un for training. [1] When Nemor attacked Wakanda with the power of a Phoenix Bird, Iron Man said Lei Kung would bring Hope Summers back to K'un L'un and seal the portal before Namor passed. The Avengers later arrived in Kun Lun. [2] When Cyclops attacked Kun-Lun with the power of the Phoenix Bird, Lei Kung met with Hope Summers at Show-Lao Cave, telling her that it was time for her last lesson. They drove to Show Lao in battle, where they were blown out of the air by Cyclops with the same power of the Phoenix Bird. Pressing Shu-Lao's forces, Hope Summers used a special strike to send Cyclops to Earth, where the strike also temporarily disabled him. [2] When Kun-Lun was rebuilt after the battle, Lei Kung had a little boy on his shoulders who told Iron Man that they did not need help rebuilding the city. He advised Iron Man to tell him that magic and science are not as separate as he thinks. Iron Man then leaves with Lei Kung's offer to deal with damage in his area. [3]

  • Lei Kung appeared on the Netflix television series : Iron Fist , portraying Hong Lee's character. [4] The episodes in the series in which he was the father of the Steel Serpent and mentor to Daniel Rand were not shown on the television series. Lei Kung first appears in the episode “The Immortal Appears from the Cave”, where he appears to Danny Randu in a vision during a meditation telling the story of K'un Moon. As Danny Rand fights Andrei and Gregory Veznikovs, the Bride of Nine Spiders and Scythe, gets rid of some of the wisdom of Lei Kung that Danny uses in her battles against them. When Lei Kung's vision tells him to kill Scythe, Madame Gao apparently threatens to use her knife on Radovan’s daughter Berniwig Sabine, forcing Danny Rand to stop killing Scythe. Although Lei Kung was disappointed in Danny Rand's vision, Danny Rand told him along the way that Madame Gao had cheated and had no other choice. Lei Kung's vision is silent when Danny leaves with Sabina.
