Biography
Sema Kaygusuz was born on August 19, 1972 in the city of Samsun in northern Turkey in a military family. In childhood, she often moved with her family from place to place, thanks to which she became acquainted with the culture and traditions of different parts of her country. From 1990 to 1994 she studied at the University of Gazi in Ankara at the Faculty of Advertising and Public Relations. In her student years, she worked on the radio, played in the theater and was fond of choreography. Then she moved to Istanbul , where she lives now. Teaches creative writing there [3]
Her first book, Ortadan Yarısından, was published in 1997. She was followed by several storybooks: Sandik Lekesi (2000), Doyma Noktasi ("2002), and Esir Sözler Kuyusu (2004). In 2006, her first novel Yere Düşen Dualar [3] was released . For director Yeshim Ustaoglu, she wrote the script for a family drama Pandora'nın Kutusu (Pandora's Box) In 2008, this film received the Golden Shell of the San Sebastian International Film Festival and entered the list of nominees for the European Film Academy Award [3] .
In 2007, Kaygusuz opened courses to study ethnic and religious diversity in Turkey. In 2008, she received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute and was for one month the “City Writer” in Berlin [3] . In 2010, she was a guest of the Berlin Arts Program of the German Academic Exchange Service . Her books have been translated into German, French, Swedish and Norwegian [4] .
