Paragush, Nejmi

Nejmie Paragusha (b. May 7, 1933) is a Yugoslav Kosovo singer and actress (Kosovo Albanian nationality), who is often called the “Queen of Albanian Music” [1] [2] .

Born in the small village of Paragusha in the vicinity of Malishevo , Kosovo [3] . She graduated from elementary school in her hometown, then went to Belgrade , where she studied for three years in a music school in the class of solo performance. She began her musical career as a singer in 1948 on Pristina Radio.

Over the course of her nearly forty-year musical career, the singer has performed works of various genres: from folk music to classical and opera parts. In the reviews of music critics who praised her work, she received various nicknames: “The Kosovan Nightingale” (Alb. Bilbili i Kosovës ), “The Queen of Albanian Music”, “Madame Butterfly” and the like.

It was very popular not only in Kosovo, but also in other European countries and regions, including Albania , the Republic of Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina , Bulgaria and so on. In these countries, as well as in Israel, she conducted several tours with the music ensemble Shota . In Kosovo, she was awarded the honorary title "Performer of the Century" (Alb. Këngëtare e shekullit )

The composition Baresha is one of the most popular songs of the singer [4] . The music in it was written by the spouse of Nejmie, Reggio Mulliki, the author of the text was Rifat Kukai. In addition, Pagarusha played many roles in various performances and films and received many awards for her acting work.

Paragush ended her musical career in 1984 after holding a big concert in Sarajevo . In 2000, 16 years after leaving the stage, she briefly returned to the stage, performing the song Për ty on an Albanian television show. He currently works as a senior music adviser on Radio Kosova and Radio Blue Sky , located in Pristina.

In November 2012, from the hands of the President of Albania, Buyar Nishani received the Order of Honor of the Nation (Alb. Nderi i Kombit ) [5] .
