The church was erected in 1642 by residents of the village of Khirishen , and was originally located not in this village, but in the monastery of the village of Khirzhauka . In 1821, the monastery moved to another place, and the church was dismantled and moved to Hirisheni (now Telenesti district ), where it continued to operate until 1928, until a stone church was built there. The old church continued to be used as a funeral home at the cemetery [1] .
By the beginning of the 21st century, the building was in very poor condition. He did not have a roof, the wooden walls were damaged by rain and snow. The Ethnographic Museum of Chisinau began negotiations with the villagers about moving the building to the capital. In the end, they agreed, and in 2009 the temple was dismantled and moved to Chisinau, where restoration work began [2] . Restorers sought to preserve as many original elements as possible, so they used original wood products and processed them with special materials to increase durability. The roof was rebuilt [3] .
The church was consecrated in the fall of 2011 in the name of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary . This is the oldest religious monument of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the largest wooden church in the country - 27 meters in height [4] . Varvara Buzile, secretary of the Ethnographic Museum, stated that the church is the only one of its kind in the Republic of Moldova at the moment (2011). She said: “The northern Moldavian style of this church makes it similar to the churches of Bukovina . At present, we do not have another church of this type, which would have such a height and similar good proportions . " It is known that there is another similar church in the Telenesti district, but it was demolished in the 1980s [3] .
