Biography
He studied law, philosophy and philology at the universities of Giessen , Bonn and Marburg . In 1866, he received his doctoral degree.
Working as a freelance reporter, traveled a lot. From 1872 he was in the editorial office of the Austrian newspaper Die Presse , from Paris he wrote correspondence to German newspapers.
From 1874 to 1882, he was the editor of the Leipzig literary magazine, collaborated with F. Dan , E. Geibel , K. Gutskov , P. Hayes .
He founded and edited the humorous newspaper Der Schlack (1879–1882) and the publishing house Ecksteins humoristische Bibliothek (1886).
Creativity
Belonged to the most readable writers of his time.
He is best known for his short stories, especially from school life, and other humorous works. He also wrote historical and everyday novels, plays, etc.
