Short Biography
In 1942 he graduated from teacher training college, in 1950 - a high school in Yogyakarta . From 1951 to 1959 studied at the department of history of the humanities department of the University of Indonesia . Under the influence of the teacher, Purbacharaki began to engage in epigraphy. In the years 1971-1972. Trained at Leiden University .
He began his career as a student, in particular, since 1951 he taught in high school. Then, together with R.P. Sudzhono and Daud Yusuf (in 1978-1982 - Minister of Education and Culture) he participated in the creation of the Ksatria school. He was a teacher at the University of Indonesia (1952-1966) and the Gaja Mada University (1959-1982). He collaborated with the Archaeological Service, where at that time the world famous researchers of archeology of Indonesia de Casparis and Louis-Charles Dame worked (until 1967 he headed the department of epigraphy). In 1967-1970 was the head of the archaeological department of the University of Indonesia, in 1973-1975 he was deputy dean, since 1991 - professor [1] .
Research
He was actively engaged in research in the field of epigraphy and archeology in general. He took part in the restoration project of Borobudur (1972-1983) and the former capital of Majapahit Trovulan (1983-1985). He was a member of the advisory committee of the Organization of Ministers of Education of Southeast Asia on archeology and art (1979-1985). Published over 100 scientific papers, including the project to create a multi-volume history of Indonesia [2] . He deciphered and published 45 inscriptions [3] .
