History
“I Can't Explain” was side “A” of the first single that the band released under the name The Who - their previous single “Zoot Suit” / “Im the Face” was released under the name The High Numbers.
In the annotation for the album, Townsend noted the similarity of the song with the 1964 Kinks song “ All Day and All of the Night ”: “It is impossible to copy Kinks even more straightforwardly [than here]. I have nothing to tell especially about how I wrote it. She jumped out of my head when I was 18 and a half. ”( It can't be beat for straightforward Kink copying. There is little to say about how I wrote this. It came out of the top of my head when I was 18 and a half. )
