Overview

Students study three foreign languages: French, Russian and English. According to the director of the Lyceum Lauri Leesi, this is a school where all knowledge is equally important [2] .

The school encourages academic attendance: extra-curricular activities are welcome, but only after classes.

Pupils are taught to appreciate different forms of art. They learn to recognize paintings and artists, visit theaters to enjoy a concert or evening ballet. Ballroom dancing is taught as part of the physical education curriculum, and also annually organize a spring ball.

The Tallinn French Lyceum is part of the Big Five of the joint schools, which are sometimes called "Elite schools in the center of Tallinn": Tallinn English College , Tallinn Secondary School, Gustav Adolf Grammar School and School No. 21 [3] .

Symbols

The school’s flag has two sides: one side shows the French flag with the name of the school in French, the coat of arms and the motto ( Probi estote per totam vitam - behave with dignity all your life). The other side of the flag is similar, except that the French flag has been replaced by the Estonian flag , and the name of the school is written in Estonian.

Pupils of the first 5 classes wear a traditional school uniform - a sailor suit, which is relatively rare in Estonia. At festive events, students wear white-collar suits, and on ordinary days, with blue-collar workers. All students must wear a school cap. The front part of the cap is decorated with the initials of the school, the base of the cap is black, the sides are white, and the top is decorated with French tricolor [4] . According to 2013 data, the cost of a Tallinn French Lyceum uniform was 223 euros, which is more expensive than in other Estonian schools [5] .

Graduates

The most famous graduate of the Tallinn French Lyceum is probably Georg Ots , an Estonian opera and pop singer, People's Artist of the USSR (he graduated from high school in 1938). Also known contemporary graduates are the director - Tanel Toom, and the musician - Maria Minerva [6] .
