Biography

In 305 BC e. after the death of his father, the Archdeam became king.

Around the year 295 BC e. Athens and Sparta declared their independence. King of Macedonia Demetrius I Poliorket went with an army to conquer Greece . In 294 BC e. As a result of the siege, Athens first fell, after which Demetrius turned his eyes to Lacedaemon. In the year 295/294 BC e. the king of the Archides IV was defeated at the battle of Mantinea from Demetrius Poliorket, and then again near Sparta itself. According to Plutarch [1] , in the battle of Sparta, the Lacedaemonians lost two hundred people and five hundred were captured. The archideans were forced to recognize vassal dependence on the king of Macedonia . All Greece came under the rule of the Macedonian monarch.

Under Archidam IV, Sparta had walls and other city fortifications. This indicates a decline in the warlike spirit of Lacedaemon and the state itself.

After 294 BC e. there is almost no information about Archidam IV [2] . He died in 275 BC. e. The next ruler of Sparta was his son Eudamid II.
