History

The history of libraries in Bataisk goes back in time. In 1898, in the village of Bataysk, a reading room was operating at the state tea house, and after the revolution, since 1918, there were two huts there - a reading room.

The first district library opened in Bataisk on July 1, 1930. By this time, there were 5,000 copies of books in it. The library was popular among residents of Bataisk. Librarians conducted book reviews, conversations with readers, and book exhibits.

In 1938, Bataysk was given the status of a city, and the library became a city. During the years of World War II, the library was badly damaged. After the liberation of Bataysk in 1943, the library was again created by the inhabitants of the city. They brought their books to it. Since 1945, three employees have worked in the library.

The name of the writer Maxim Gorky was assigned to the library in 1958, in 1960 it became the Central City Library.

Since 1980, the library to them. M. Gorky led all city libraries. The Centralized Library System of the city of Bataisk was formed.
