Palaeoamyda messeliana (lat.) - a species of extinct crypto-tortoises (Cryptodira) that existed in the Eocene in Europe ( Germany ) from 48.6 to 40.4 million years ago. The only species of the genus Palaeoamyda [1] .

Taxonomy
Karl (1998) considered Palaeoamyda a synonym for Rafetoides austriacus (Peters, 1858), but subsequent repeated description of the material showed that it was a separate genus [2] .
Description
Palaeoamyda messeliana soft-bodied three- clawed turtles up to 60 cm long. This is the largest species of turtles found in Messell's quarry. Carapax and plastron are not interconnected and the plastron is strongly reduced.
