History
On May 8, 1908, an almshouse was opened in Novocherkassk in the parish of the Novocherkassk Ascension Cathedral . In honor of this event, the clergy held a liturgy with the akathist Rev. Seraphim of Sarov, the Miracle Worker and many years the Sovereign Emperor, the Royal House, the Holy Synod, the Don Archpastor and members of the clergy.
The almshouse was opened in Shyroky lane in the house number 6, which was purchased for this purpose by the trustee [1] . With this almshouse the history of the church began In the name of St. Seraphim of Sarov .
After the opening of the almshouse, the Board of Trustees of the Ascension Cathedral began raising funds for the construction of the stone Seraphim Church. On July 19, 1908, the solemn laying of a new church took place in the name of St. Seraphim of Sarov. On the eve in the Mother of God side chapel of the Ascension Cathedral, an all-night vigil was performed with the reading of an akathist to St. Seraphim. Arriving at the site of the laying of the temple, His Eminence Athanasius overshadowed the people with a holy blessing. After the blessing of the water and the sprinkling of the cross, the priests erected a cross on the site of the alleged throne. Masters closed up a cross with a brick. A metal board with an inscription on the time and circumstances of the laying of the church was laid at the base of the temple. Along with laying the foundation of the future temple, there was a collection of donations for the further construction of the Seraphim temple [2] . Two years later, the Seraphim Church was built and consecrated.
The fate of the church was short-lived. Due to the dirt on Shyroky Lane, which made it difficult for parishioners to enter the church, in the autumn of 1913, the Seraphim Church was given the status of a house church. “Don Provincial Gazette” informed the parishioners that by the Decree of the Holy Synod, the Seraphim Church was turned into a house and a staff of priests was opened with it. The church has not survived to this day. At this place is now a wasteland, and garages are nearby.
