History
The Scientific Automobile Institute was formed on March 14, 1920 on the basis of the Scientific Automotive Laboratory (NAL) at the scientific and technical department of the Supreme Economic Council , which was established on October 16, 1918 . Since 1924, the institute has authorized the purchase of imported automotive vehicles. By 1927, the first independent car NAMI-1 was developed (the first passenger car in the USSR).
In the 1930s, the institute became the leading design division of the Soviet automobile industry. At this time, the first Soviet trolleybuses were developed and put into production, several models of tractors and trucks were created . For the needs of the Red Army , semi-tracked models and armored cars were actively developed [1] .
From 1931 to 1946, he was called the Scientific Automobile and Tractor Institute (NATI) [2] .
At the beginning of 1946, in connection with the transfer of the tractor industry to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agricultural Engineering, NATI was divided into two parts. The automobile part remained under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Automotive Industry and was transformed into the Research Automotive and Automobile Institute (NAMI). The tractor part was handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and the Federal Research Tractor Institute (NATI) was organized on its basis.
The institute was designed several engines, which served as the basis for production models. However, many promising design solutions could not be quickly mastered by the Soviet industry. For example, the development of front-wheel drive in NAMI began in 1966-1967, and the first front-wheel drive car began to be mass-produced in the USSR only in the 1980s. In the same period, the development of an automatic gearbox for passenger cars began [2] .
Scientists and designers of the institute actively participated in the creation, testing and launching into production of virtually all Soviet cars, a number of engines and tractors.
In 1994, the NAMI Institute received the status of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation.
In 2003, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology of Russia accredited NAMI as the Test Center for Automotive Products (ICAI), which became a technical service with the right to conduct tests under the UNECE Regulations.
In 2014, NAMI acquired technologies, design documentation and exclusive rights to know-how for the development of the body and chassis of the Yo-Mobile hybrid car for 1 euro from the ONEXIM Group . [3]
NAMI is the representative of the Russian Federation in the Technical Committee 22 “Road Transport” of the International Organization for Standardization .
Polygon
In the 1960s, a test site was established at the institute (Scientific Testing Center for Automotive and Motorcycle Technology, NITsIAMT), located near Dmitrov . Now this subdivision is called the Research Center for Testing and Finishing Automotive FSUE "NAMI" (NITSIAMT FSUE "NAMI").
Editions
Since 1923, the institute began to produce the Bulletin of the Scientific and Motor Institute. Currently, the collection “Proceedings of NAMI” is included in the list of publications recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission ( HAC ) for the publication of materials of dissertations.
