History
The role in the movie Honeysuckle Rose, released in 1980, was the first major role in Willy Nelson's career. He plays an aging American musician who does not manage to achieve national fame in any way and he quarreled with his family, with whom he performs on stage together, traveling around the country with concerts. (Family members are part of his musical group) [3] .
Shortly after Nelson signed the contract for this role, he was approached by the executive producer of the motion picture and asked to write a song about life on a concert tour so that it could be used as the main theme of the film [4] [5] . Nelson quickly wrote the song on a hygiene bag (the so-called vomit bag that is given on airplanes; the English barf bag ) [6] .
Edition
The song was released as a single at the same time as an album by Willy Nelson and friends of Honeysuckle Rose (who served as the soundtrack to the above film).
The album climbed to number 1 on the Biilboard Country Chart, and the song reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 [7] .
Prizes and recognition
Nelson received a Grammy for this song in the nomination for Best Country Song. In addition, he was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Original Song” [8] .
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed the song “On the Road Again” performed by Willy Nelson in 471th place on his list of “ 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ” [9] .
