Villa Grimaldi is a villa in Santiago , the capital of Chile . Gained notoriety as a place of detention for political prisoners who were tortured during the reign of Augusto Pinochet . Currently a memorial.

Content
History
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Chilean intellectuals and artists gathered here. In 1970, the villa was used by supporters of presidential candidate Salvador Allende .
Torture
After the coup, the villa was confiscated and used as the headquarters of the DINA military intelligence. The abducted left were kept here. Among them, women were raped and sexually tortured. Among the well-known prisoners held in the villa were Michelle Bachelet (future President of Chile), who was in prison with her mother. In total, about 4,500 people passed through the villa, more than two hundred of them were killed.
Memorial
Releasing the premises, military intelligence officers destroyed many evidence. Today Villa Grimaldi is a memorial and tourist attraction of Santiago .
