Career

Alvaro began his career at the Zhabacuar club, a little later his younger brother, Ramiro , joined him. In February 1953, he joined the Santos Club. Already on March 3, the footballer scored 3 goals in a friendly game against Flamengo , becoming one of the team’s main players [2] . In 1955, Ramiro joined his brother and this year the club for the first time in 20 years was able to celebrate the victory in the state championship of Sao Paulo . Alvaro himself scored 12 goals, becoming the third sniper of the team, behind Emanuele Del Vecchio and Walter Vanconcelos . The next season the club repeated this success, but Alvaro played less, in particular, did not participate in the decisive game with Sao Paulo . In 1958, Alvaro won his third title better than the state team, and a year later he celebrated his victory in the Rio Sao Paulo tournament . Then “Santos” went on a tour of Europe , the apotheosis of which was the victory over “ Barcelona ” 5: 1 [1] . The Valente brothers aroused interest in the Spanish club Atletico Madrid . Alvaro made his team debut on September 20, 1959 in a match with Sevilla , where he scored 2 goals [3] . The Brazilian spent 11 matches, after which he was injured and did not play until the end of the season, at the end of which he spent 1 game in the Spanish Cup . In 1961, he returned to Santos, for which he played in the Rio São Paulo Tournament [2] .

As part of the Brazilian national team, Alvaro made his debut on September 20, 1955 in the O'Higgins Cup match with Chile , in which he replaced instead of his Santos partner Vancoselos and scored the decisive goal, bringing Brazil the victory and the Cup. The following year, he went to the South American Championship , where he played in 4 out of five games and scored one goal against Peru . In the spring of the same year, he went on a tour of the European team, which ended in a match with the founders of football, the British , in which Brazil lost 2-4. This meeting was the last for Alvaro in the T-shirt of the national team. In total, he spent 11 matches for the national team and scored 3 goals (9 matches - 2 goals in official meetings).

Having completed his playing career, Alvaro stopped in the city of Guaruju , where he worked as a caretaker of one of the buildings. There he died due to diabetes . One of the streets of Guaruži was named after him [2] .
