Biography
Chase Gormley was born on August 11, 1983 in the city of Torrance , California . Before becoming a fighter, he worked as a personal trainer for physical fitness.
He made his debut in professional mixed martial arts in April 2007 at the King of the Cage tournament, defeated his first rival by unanimous decision. He fought in small American promotions, in particular, in a duel with Rick Chick, he won the Gladiator Challenge heavyweight title. In May 2008, he performed at the tournament of the major Canadian promotion Maximum Fighting Championship , where, following the results of three rounds, he defeated Eric Pele by unanimous decision.
With six victories on his track record and not a single defeat, in 2009 Gormley attracted the attention of the largest fighting organization in the world, the Ultimate Fighting Championship . Initially, he was supposed to meet with Ben Rothwell at the Affliction: Trilogy tournament [1] , but after Affliction Entertainment stopped its promotional activities, the fight was postponed to UFC 104 [2] . Matchmakers of the organization shuffled several fighters of the planned tournament, as a result of which the Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve became an opponent of Gormley [3] . Already in the first round, Struve applied the “ triangle ” to Gormley, and thereby forced him to surrender [4] . In March 2010, he lost by technical knockout to Brendan Schaub , and this was the end of his collaboration with the UFC [5] .
Subsequently, he performed in various less prestigious promotions, won the title of champion Titan FC in heavyweight, was a contender for the title of IFC, but in this case lost to Mike Whitehead by technical knockout.
Having made a series of five consecutive victories, in 2015 Chase Gormley signed a long-term exclusive contract with another major American organization, Bellator MMA [6] . However, his debut here was unsuccessful, followed by a knockout defeat from Dan Charles [7] . The following year, Gormley won by a separate decision of judges Joey Beltran and Bobby Brents. In March 2017, in the first round he was knocked out by Russian veteran Sergei Kharitonov [8] .
