Burchard I ( German: Burchard I .; died after November 3, 1017) - Count in Hassegau (991), Palatine of Saxony (1003), Count of Merseburg (1004), Imperial Vogt (1012).

His father was either Burchard IV, Earl of Hassegau (who died in Calabria in 982), or Siegfried, Earl of Hassegau in 961–980.
In 1004, after the death of Eziko of Merseburg, Burchard I received his county with the exception of 4 cities along the Mulde River .
In 1015 he took part in the war with Poland and was seriously wounded. After that, he was ill for a long time and died as a result of this disease.
There is no exact information about the wife and children of Burchard I. According to the most common version, his wife was Oda of Merseburg (d. 1045), daughter of the Palatinate Siegfried II [1] . Intended children:
- Frederick I (d. 1042), Palatinate of Saxony since 1038
- Siegfried (d. April 15, 1038), Palatinate of Saxony since 1017
- Bruno (c. 1000 - February 10, 1055), since 1037 - Bishop of Minden .
