Biography

His full name is Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Furak al-Ansari al-Isbahani. Born around 941. Judging by his nisba, he was probably from the city of Isfahan. Studied in Basra and Baghdad . He studied asharite kalam under the leadership of Abu al-Hassan al-Bahili, together with al-Bakillani and al-Isfaraini . Hadithology was studied under the supervision of a direct student of Abu-al-Hassan al-Ashari (d. 936 ) Abdullah ibn Jafar al-Isbahani, of which little is known [1] . From Iraq, he first went to Rey , and then in 982–983 he was invited by the emir to Nishapur as a teacher. In Nishapur, a madrasah was built for him near the Sufi monastery ( khanaka ) al-Busanji. Was in Nishapur until the death of Sufi Abu Usman al-Maghribi ( 983 g.) [2] . He died of poisoning in 1015, returning to Ghazna , where he was summoned by Sultan Mahmud Ghaznevi (971-1030) [3] .

In the debate about attributes, ibn Furak took an anti-anthropomorphic position, believing that anthropomorphic terms can be applied to God only allegorically, and God himself should be understood as transcendental [3] .
