Strength

  • According to the 2002 census , 3.7 thousand Hungarians lived in Russia [1] .
  • According to the 2010 All-Russian Population Census , the number of Hungarians in Russia was 2781 people (urban population - 1811 people, rural - 970) [2] .

Famous Hungarians in Russia

  • Antal Gidash (1899-1980). Together with his wife, the daughter of Bela Kun , he was repressed, but both survived, were fully rehabilitated in 1956. He returned to Hungary in 1959.
  • Mate Zalka , aka General Lukacs (1896-1938), the most famous Hungarian writer in Russia. He died in Spain.
  • Frides Karikás ( Hungarian Karikás Frigyes ) [3] [4] (1895-1938). In Khortist Hungary, he was in prison, freed in 1935, received political asylum in the USSR, was repressed and killed at the Butovo training ground. In Hungary, his works were released only after 1956.
  • Sandor Bart (1897-1938). In 1935 he came to the USSR, in 1938 he was repressed.
  • Andor Gabor (1884-1953). After 1933 he lived in the USSR, returned to Hungary in 1945. He died his death.
  • Lajos Nagy (1883-1954), Hungarian writer and journalist. He lived in the USSR since 1934, returned to Hungary in 1945. He died his death.
  • Rozvan, Evgeny Georgievich ( Jeno Rozvan , Hungarian. Rozvány Jenő , rum. Eugen Rozvan ; December 28, 1878 , Nagy Salonta , Austria-Hungary [5] - June 16, 1938 , Moscow ) - Romanian revolutionary of Hungarian descent, lawyer, historian. Killed at the Butovo training ground.
  • Matyash Rakosi (1892-1971), leader of the Hungarian Communists.

Even in the days of the Comintern, he lived for a long time in the USSR, and after liberation from fascism he became the actual dictator of Hungary. After Khrushchev’s report on the personality cult, he was removed from the post of Secretary General. After the events of the fall of 1956, he was removed from all posts and exported to the USSR, where he lived his life. In 1962 he was expelled from the party. He lived in Kyrgyzstan, then in Arzamas and Gorky. In Russia, his name was Matvey Iosifovich. Until the end of days he remained a convinced Stalinist. He died in 1971, was buried in Budapest.

  • Stalvira Orshush (born 1993) is the Russian champion in wrestling, the winner of the European Cup of Nations in 2013, and the European champion in 2018 [6] .
