Khatranov Mansion (Rostov-on-Don)

An old mansion on I-i Sovetskaya street, 46 in Rostov-on-Don was built in the 1890s. Its owners are known. One of them was the mayor, the hereditary honorary citizen P.E. Khatranov.

The Khatranov clan in Nakhichevan-on-Don was very wealthy. In the first half of the 19th century, the Nakhichevan merchant Pogos Harutyunovich Khatranyan traded in Russia, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Another representative of the Khatranyan family, Kevork, was an entrepreneur. He built a brick factory in Nakhichevan. On the preserved front door of the building in the cartouche , the letter “X” is made - the first letter of the name of the owner of the building.

In 1912, the owner of the house was Gabriel Vasilievich Mazaev. The cost of the house by this time was about 17,500 rubles. The state of the Mazayev family was estimated at millions of rubles. The head of the family, Ivan Gavrilovich Mazayev, a prosperous Molokan peasant, was at one time exiled to the village of Novovasilyevka in the Tauride province for abandoning Orthodoxy. Later, he moved to the settlement Bolshaya Strong, where he was engaged in sheep farming. The Mazaevs left their mark on history: they bred a breed of Merino sheep, called the "Mazaevskaya" breed.

During the years of Soviet power, the building was nationalized. During the Great Patriotic War, during the German occupation, the building was the Gestapo, after the liberation of the city - the hospital. After the war, the building was occupied by the military departments: the apartment-operation part, since 1980, the building has been the center of the state sanitary and epidemiological surveillance of the military district.

Khatranov’s mansion is a one and a half floor plastered brick house. Its architecture is solved in the traditions of residential development of old Nakhichevan. Its facade is asymmetrical, the main entrance is made on the left side of the house. Semicircular and rectangular windows are decorated with triangular and semicircular sandriks. The ground floor is rusticated. Extreme front windows are decorated with half-columns of a Doric order. The four-pitched roof has dormers. The facade of the building is painted in three colors. Decorative elements are painted white.

Inside the building, a marble staircase leads to the second floor, the ceilings of the rooms are decorated with decorative ornaments.

A corridor stretches along the second floor, on both sides of which are living rooms with original decor. The large hall in the building faces the 1st Sovetskaya Street. In the hall, the stage and the balcony for the orchestra are separated by partitions. Here, in due time, balls were given, home performances, concerts. The main hall of the building is decorated with wooden decor. Internal doors are made with wooden decorative carved linings.
