Biography
Ernst Casimir is the youngest son of Count Ludwig II of Nassau-Weilburg and Anna Maria of Hesse-Kassel . Father Ludwig managed to unite under his authority all the Walram possessions of Nassau. After his death in 1627, four heir brothers carried out a partition. The eldest Wilhelm Ludwig received Nassau-Saarbrücken , Johann - Nassau-Idstein , Ernst Casimir - Nassau-Weilburg, and Otto - Kirchheim . Minors Ernst Casimir and Otto were initially under the care of Wilhelm Ludwig's older brother.
Ernst Casimir's inheritance included Weilburg , Merenberg , Gleiberg , Guttenberg, Reichelsheim , and after the death of his brother Otto in 1632, Kirchheim, Stauf, Bolanden, and part of Homburg were added to them. Ernst Casimir infrequently lived in his possessions. In 1634, before the Thirty Years War, he fled to Metz and returned after the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia .
In 1634, Count Ernst Casimir married Anna Maria Sain-Wittgenstein-Gachenburg (1610–1656), daughter of Count William II Sain-Wittgenstein-Gachenburg (1569–1623). The spouses were born:
- Wilhelm Ludwig (1634-1636)
- Maria Eleanor (1636–1678), married to Count Casimir von Eberstein
- Casimir (1638-1639)
- Friedrich (1640–1675), married to Christian Elizabeth Sain-Wittgenstein-Homburg (1646–1678), daughter of Count Ernst Sain-Wittgenstein-Homburg (1599–1649)
