Academy of Russian Television

The Russian Academy of Television Academy Foundation (ART Foundation) is a Russian non-profit organization uniting the interests of Russian broadcasters and television producers . The organization was created in 1994 as the Russian Television Development Fund (RFRT), since 2001 it has a modern name.

The full official name is the Academy of Russian Television Foundation. The abbreviated official name is the ART Fund.

The Academy is the organizer of the TEFI-Region television contest (from 2001) [1] , from 1994 to 2011 held the annual TEFI Prize for the highest achievements in the field of television arts [2] . It supports the association of journalists writing about television, the Telepress Press Club.

The President of the Academy is Alexander Zavenovich Akopov (since December 2013) [3] . From 1994 to November 5, 2008, this post was occupied by Vladimir Vladimirovich Pozner [4] , then Mikhail Efimovich Shvydkoi .

The General Director of the Academy is Eteri Mikhailovna Levieva (since December 1, 2011) [5] . Prior to her death on February 19, 2011, this post was occupied by Raisa Yakovlevna Beschadnaya [6] .

Academy Members

Clause 1 of Article 118 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation establishes that an organization does not have a membership fund in the legal form, but according to statements on the Academy’s website, membership is available.

In December 2010, there were 555 people among ART members [7] .

History

The organization was established as the Russian Television Development Fund (RFRT) in 1994 at the initiative of the country's leading television organizations ( Ostankino State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company , VGTRK , NTV Television Company , Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation , VID Television Company and several others) for the establishment of the TEFI Prize .

Since 2001, the organization has a modern name - the Academy of Russian Television Foundation.

Since 2001, the Fund has supported the association of journalists writing about television, the Telepress Press Club [8] . Annually, according to the results of the television season, in the Fund’s office, prizes and diplomas of the “Telepress Club” are awarded in several categories [9] [10] .

Criticism

  • Director Oleg Dorman , who was awarded a special prize of the ART Foundation in 2010 as part of the TEFI-2010 award (for the film Interlinear ), refused to accept the award, stating:

“Among the members of the Academy, its jury, founders and so on are people who have made our film eleven years old and could not reach the audience. People who despise the public and who have made television the main factor in the moral and social catastrophe that has occurred over the past ten years ... " [11]
