Danny Lopez was born July 6, 1952 in Fort Duchenne , Utah . It has Native American ( utes ), Mexican and Irish roots [1] .
Professional career
He made his debut in the professional ring on May 27, 1971, having won by knockout in the 1st round [2] .
May 24, 1974 lost by technical knockout in the 9th round to the American Bobby Chacon [3] .
On April 24, 1975, in the 2nd round of ex-world bantamweight champion Mexican Chucho Castillo [4] .
On December 4, 1975, he knocked out in the 7th round of the ex-world champion in two weight categories Mexican Ruben Olivares [5] .
February 25, 1976 ahead of schedule defeated the American Sean O'Grady [6] .
Champion Fight with David Kotei
On November 6, 1976, he met with WBC World Champion Featherweight Champion David Kotay . The fight lasted all 15 rounds. The judges unanimously gave the victory to Lopez [7] .
Title Defenses (1977-1979)
September 13, 1977 ahead of schedule defeated the Mexican Jose Torres [8] .
On February 15, 1978, he met with David Coty for the second time. He won by TKO in the 6th round [9] .
April 23, 1978, knocked out in the 6th round of the Brazilian Jose de Paulo [10] .
September 15, 1978 he knocked out in the 2nd round of the Argentinean Juan Domingo Malvarez [11] .
October 21, 1978 defeated the Filipino Fel Clemente [12] .
March 10, 1979 he knocked out in the 2nd round of the Spaniard Roberto Castagnon [13] .
June 17, 1979 met with an American Mike Ayala . He won by knockout in the last, 15th round. The fight itself was recognized as “the fight of the year ” (1979) according to the magazine “Ring” [14] .
September 25, 1979 he knocked out in the 3rd round of the Dominican Jose Cabo [15] .
Defeat by Salvador Sanchez and loss of title
On February 2, 1980, he defended his title in a fight against the Mexican Salvador Sanchez . Lost by technical knockout in the 13th round and lost his belt [16] .
Second fight with Salvador Sanchez
On June 21, 1980, he tried to regain the WBC title in a rematch with Salvador Sanchez. lost by technical knockout in the 14th round [17] .
After the second defeat, Sanchez left boxing. After more than 10 years, he returned to the ring. February 27, 1992, lost by knockout in the 2nd round to a little-known American Jorge Rodriguez. After that, he finally completed his career [18] .
