History

Memorial The Wall of Memory was opened in the city of Bataisk, Rostov Region on May 9, 2006. The memorial is located in the park named after VI Lenin. It was created in memory of the citizens who died in different years in the performance of military and international duty.

In the 50s of the 20th century, the communal grave of soldiers who liberated Bataysk during the Great Patriotic War was located in the city not far from the cinema. There were buried 996 soldiers who died in this war. In 1958, a monument was erected near the grave, which has not been preserved to this day. The monument was a figure of two warriors, standing upright. One of the soldiers was holding an automatic rifle in his right hand, his left hand was on the shoulder of the second, who was in a kneeling position. This gypsum monument was about two meters high.

In 1967, a monument was erected near the grave, dedicated to the heroes of the Civil War of 1918-1925. The metal plates of the monument were immortalized the names of the victims of the Red Army. The monument was a figure of a Red Army man in Budennovka and a greatcoat with a bowed head. In his hand was a rifle. The height of the monument was about 3.5 meters.

In the 70s, the remains of soldiers from several graves, located within the city limits, in a mass grave in a city park were reburied in Bataisk. Here, under the two marble slabs lie the bodies of 1,044 warriors. In 1975, the Memorial Wall was created here. Placards with the names of soldiers killed in different years for the liberation of the city of soldiers are set on the concrete semi-circular wall of the memorial.

Since 1975, the guard of schoolchildren of Batai schools stood on the memorial. The tradition of the guard of honor, forgotten during the years of perestroika, was revived in 2005. On May 9, 1975, an eternal flame was lit at the memorial in the form of a rectangular plate deep into the ground.

In 2005, an alley of Glory was created at the memorial, on the sides of which busts of Heroes of the Soviet Union I.P. , Kotov A.A., Bogdanenko V.A., Inozemtseva G.A., Leonova N.I., Polovinko were installed. Pavel A., Heroes of Russia Pershikov V. A. and Grechanik V. P., full cavalier of the Order of Glory N. Kalchenko. A sculptural composition is installed in front of the wall of memory. It shows a sculpture of a war veteran sitting on a stove and a wand, next to him is a sculpture of a standing boy who holds a veteran's cap in his hand.

The author of the memorial Wall of Memory was a sculptor, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2004) Anatoly Andreevich Sknarin . Currently, the memorial includes the Mass grave with the Eternal Flame, the Walk of Fame, the Wall of Memory. At the memorial during the holidays, meetings of citizens are held, flowers are laid on the mass grave.
