Biography

He was born on February 2, 1920 in the village of Puchino, now Danilovsky District, Yaroslavl Region, in a working class family. Russian. He graduated from 7 classes. He lived in the city of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He worked as a locksmith in the trust "Kotloremontmontazh".

In May 1940 he was drafted into the Red Army. At the front in World War II from the first days. In September 1941 he received severe shell shock, spent more than six months in hospitals. After the cure, he was sent to the reserve regiment, received the specialty of a mortar. Since June 1942, he fought as part of the 19th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Infantry Division on the Leningrad Front, and became the commander of mortar crews. As part of this regiment, he went to Victory. For two years he fought on the Senyavinsky heights, participated in breaking the blockade. In 1944 he was admitted to the CPSU (b) / CPSU. He was wounded several times.

On March 17, 1944, in the battles for the village of Mologovo (northwest of the city of Pskov), Senior Sergeant Ivanov boldly and selflessly commanded mortar crews, quickly and accurately covering enemy firing points that interfered with the attacking gunners. Ivanov’s calculation in these battles destroyed two easel machine guns, the anti-tank gun firing direct fire, scattered and partially destroyed to the infantry company.

By order of the commander of the 90th Infantry Division of April 2, 1944, Senior Sergeant Ivanov Pavel Ivanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree (No. 47178).

After the regrouping of troops on the Leningrad Front, the 90th Infantry Division was transferred to the Karelian Isthmus. In the summer of 1944, the regiment in which the mortar Ivanov fought participated in the breakthrough of the Mannerheim line, the capture of Vyborg.

On September 17, 1944, the troops of the Leningrad Front, operating in Estonia, went on the offensive. It took the Soviet soldiers ten days to clear the mainland of the fraternal republic from the Nazi occupiers. In these battles, the mortar gunner Ivanov again excelled.

On the first day of the offensive, September 17, Senior Sergeant Ivanov, as noted in the award presentation, “in the area north of Tartu installed his mortar at the starting line in the infantry fighting formations and, despite the enemy’s strong artillery fire, literally under the bursts of shells, sparing of his life, he aimed fire and destroyed two machine gun points, two mortars, knocked the Nazis out of the trench and put them to flight. ”

By order of the troops of the 2nd shock army of October 24, 1944, Senior Sergeant Ivanov Pavel Ivanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree (No. 7806)

After the liberation of Estonia, the division, in which senior sergeant Ivanov served, was transferred to Poland and took part in many battles as part of the 2nd Belorussian Front. As in previous battles, the mortar Ivanov skillfully struck at the enemy.

On January 14, 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense near the village of Dzerzhanovo (north-west of the city of Pulutsk, Poland), Ivanov’s crew destroyed two machine guns, a cannon with a calculation, suppressed the fire of two mortars, and also broke two wire fences, which contributed to the success of the infantry. 15 January, at the settlement of Czernostow (Poland), when a counterattack was repelled, he opened fire and destroyed over ten enemy soldiers.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exceptional courage, bravery and fearlessness shown in battles with the Nazi invaders, Senior Sergeant Ivanov Pavel Ivanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 42). He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.

In 1945, P.I. Ivanov was demobilized. He returned to the city of Leningrad. More than thirty years before retiring, he worked as a mechanic in the trust N2 of the Ministry of Electrotechnical Industry. Died July 6, 1983. He was buried in the South cemetery in St. Petersburg.
