Biography

Born April 6, 1866 [1] in the St. Petersburg province in the family of Fleet Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Fedorovich Yankovsky.

In service since 1882. He graduated from the shipbuilding department of the Technical School of the Maritime Department in Kronstadt and was promoted to the rank of conductor of the Marine Engineers Corps. He served at the shipyards of the Maritime Department [1] .

In 1886–1889 he participated in the construction of the battleship Emperor Nicholas I (builder ship engineer P. A. Titov ) in St. Petersburg , and in the construction of the mine cruiser Captain Saken in Sevastopol. Since 1890, after graduating from the shipbuilding department of the Nikolaev Maritime Academy [1] , he took part in the construction of the battleships “ Sisoy the Great ”. In 1892, he was appointed, together with the ship engineer A. I. Leontiev, the builder of the battleship Poltava in St. Petersburg. The ship was launched on October 25, 1894.

In 1897, after the secondment of the builder of the Rostislav squadron battleship M.K. Yakovlev, to St. Petersburg, Yankovsky continued the construction of the battleship at the final stage until 1900 and participated in its sea trials [2] .

On July 1, 1900 he was appointed the junior shipbuilder of the Nikolaev port and the builder of the armored cruiser Ochakov , which was laid down on August 13, 1901 in Sevastopol at the Kazhennaya shipyard , built and launched on October 1, 1902. For excellent discretion and vigorous activity in the construction of the cruiser, from a special 15,000th fund for the promotion of ship engineers, the builder N. I. Yankovsky was rewarded with a cash prize of 2500 rubles [3] .

In 1906 he was promoted to senior shipbuilder , in 1907 - re-certified as colonel of the Marine Engineers Corps. Since 1908, he served as an assistant to the chief inspector of shipbuilding A.N. Krylov [1] .

In 1910 he was promoted to major general , in the rank of April 18, 1910, was appointed senior assistant to the chief inspector of shipbuilding, since 1911 - assistant to the head of the shipbuilding department of the General Directorate of Shipbuilding [1] .

January 1, 1915 was appointed inspector of the plants of the Maritime Department. October 5, 1916 promoted to lieutenant general [1] .

He died on October 6, 1916, was buried in St. Petersburg.

He was married, had two children [4] .
