In 1991, Diego Vasaglio, while working at Duncan Dhu, recorded the first album of his solo project Cabaret Pop, with the same name. The style of this disc is different from rockabilly Duncan Dhu , it is more danceable with elements of funk, techno and soul. On this disc, such songs as âCabaret Popâ, âAdictos al amorâ, âJimmy se vaâ, âNadieâ stand out and as a whole it turned out to be quite integral.
In the same year, Diego returned to work at Duncan Dhu and recorded the album âSupernovaâ as part of the group. In 1992, Diego and Mikel continue to write songs with the next joint album, in parallel with Cabaret Pop, the album "Realidad virtual de Rock'n'roll" is released. It was on this disc that such songs as âEn el peine de los vientosâ, âRastros de tiâ, âAmiga carnalâ, âSecreto Placerâ, and, of course, âJuegos de amorâ were released.
In 1994, while on tour with Duncan Dhu, Diego writes songs for the next solo album. Now his project is called Diego Vasallo y Cabaret Pop and the disc, in the style of popular music with soul elements, bears the same name. Especially memorable are such themes as âMiramarâ, âVeranoâ, âPoemas Rotosâ and âPolaroidsâ, which was released as a separate single.
In 1997, Diego left Cabaret Pop behind and released the successful, easy-to-listen acoustic album âCriaturasâ, the cover for which he himself had painted. The recordings include Carlos Subijana, Cristina Lliso, Carlos Escribano, as well as musicians with whom Diego worked on previous albums Luis Lozano, Joserra Semperena, Marcelo Fuentes o Michel Longaron. On this disc, songs such as âCriaturas Salvajesâ, âDiez Añosâ, âLos Ojos Mojadosâ, âComo La Garganta Del CaimĂĄnâ are especially remembered.
The next disc, entitled "Canciones de amor desafinado", which is recognized by many as the most successful for a musicianâs career, was released in 2000. The recordings were attended by Suso Saiz and JosĂ© MarĂa Rosillo, Joxan Goikoetxea (accordion), Javier Ălvarez, Luis Eduardo Aute. On this disc, the first changes in the performerâs voice are already noticeable. Duncan Dhu at that time recorded the album "CrepĂșsculo", but did not even give concerts after its release. The group suspended its creative activity due to the employment of Diego and Mikel with their solo careers.
In 2003, in collaboration with Suso Saiz, Diego presented the unusual work âCuaderno de PĂ©talos de Elefanteâ - a disk book with poems and drawings accumulated over the past few years. This project was also attended by Joserra Semperena, David Gwynn, Ana Laan, Mathew Simon. Jose MÂȘ Rosillo. âDonde duermen (los caballos salvajes)â, âTodo lo que nadie quiereâ and âSombrasâ are the songs most remembered by the listeners of this album. Diego's discs are each time becoming more gloomy and dark, while becoming more personal.
In April 2005, again with the support of Suso Saiz, Los abismos cotidianos was released. In this album, the influence of French chanson and Portuguese fado is felt, which, combined with Diego's continuing voice sits, is perceived quite organically.
In 2006, Diego published two works at once: âLas huellas borradasâ - a collection of the best songs from 1997 to 2006 and âLa MĂĄquina del Mundoâ - a disk book based on the gloomy lyrics of the writer and poet Roger Wolfe, which are laid on a musical basis, similar to an intelligent chanson with violins, double bass, accordion and keyboards.
The next disc was released in 2010. The melodic songs written in sad, pensive verses of Diego, recorded in a simple arrangement, have developed into an album called âCanciones en ruinasâ. Suso Saiz, Diego Galaz and Joserra Senperena participated in the recording.
In 2013, what fans have been waiting for so long has finally happened. Duncan Dhu recorded the album "El Duelo". After the tour in his support, the participants again went about their business, but, periodically, perform together.
In 2016, a disc called âBaladas para un autorretratoâ appeared. Diegoâs very personal, sometimes sad poems are set to music in the style of primitive rock and the early works of Elvis Presley. Along with the disc, Diego's book of poems, Al mĂĄrgen de los dias, with his own illustrations, was published. And the first book with verses and 33 illustrations by Diego Vasallo âCanciones que no fueronâ was published in 2011.
On April 7, 2017, the reprint of Baladas para un autorretrato is released with several new themes.
