Story
A young man named Sadyk ( ) leaves his native village on the Aegean coast to study journalism at Istanbul University . His father, Hussein ( Cetin Tekindor ), is unhappy with his son’s choice, and wants him to study agricultural technology in order to subsequently manage a family farm. At the university, Sadik joins a left - wing extremist group; Upon learning of this, Hussein renounces it.
In the early morning of September 12, 1980, labor begins at Sadik’s pregnant wife. In search of people who could help her get to the hospital, they go out into the street but do not meet anyone - because of a military coup in the city, a curfew has been announced. In a city park, Sadyk’s wife gives birth to a son and soon dies. The child receives the name Deniz - perhaps in honor of the idol of the Turkish left youth Deniz Gezmish .
The military arrest Sadyk because of his political activities. He is tortured during interrogation and soon sentenced to three years in prison. After his release, he learns that he will die soon - over the years spent in prison, his health has been greatly undermined. Upon learning of the imminent death, he, together with his son, returns to the farm of his mother and father - the latter refuses to talk with him even after returning. For Denise, a boy immersed in the magical world of comics , moving to a farm completely changes the whole picture of the world. He meets his grandmother ( ), a tractor driver and a short - wave radio amateur , with Aunt Hanife ( ), whose arms are covered with bracelets from her wrists to her shoulders, and a slightly naive uncle Salim ( Yetkin Dikingerjer ).
Sadik and Hussein manage to make peace with each other. Sadyk also meets with his old friends and first love, married to another and having two children. At the end of the film, the disease takes its toll, and Sadik dies; Hussein and his wife take Denise under their care.
